Baby Farida ruled Hindi cinema in the 60s as the most sought-after child actress. The younger generation may not know much about her, but of course their elders might be familiar about her stardom. Now, she is known as Farida Dadi and acts in TV Serials.
Coming from an orthodox family she was discovered by eminent filmmaker Bimal Roy, who casted her first as young Nutan in his movie SUJATA (1960), when she was eight years old. Her mastery over tragic performances very soon earned her a place of her own.
She did many hit films like DOSTI, RAM AUR SHYAM, BRAHMACHARI, SANGAM, KABULIWALAH, JAB JAB PHOOL KHILE, PHOOL AUR PATTHAR etc. In fact her demand was such that the distributors bought film rights only after confirming whether Baby Farida had a role in it.
Talking about her brilliance in emoting, long back in her interview on radio she narrated an interesting incident.
She said, “Once I went to see my movie BETI BETE starring Sunil Dutt in theatre. The movie was a poignant tale of three children's soulful survival after their parent die. I played the role of an elder sister who takes care of her two little brothers bravely facing all atrocities.”
She continued, “The reaction of the audience was so great that literally I could hear the whispers of tears. Furthermore what really stunned me was a lady sitting next to me who was crying uncontrollably. In the interval the same lady asked my mother, “Who is this young girl? She has given such a fine tragic performance. Hearing which my mother felt so proud of me.”

Farida Dadi is a renowned face of Indian Television and Bollywood movies. Later, she chose television to act in and received accolades as Farida Dadi. Along with serial, she has acted in many movies. Some of her best movies are Dhol and The Awakening, 3 Idiots, Rahasya and Love U Soniyo.
Farida Dadi was last seen in latest B-town movie LoveShhuda along with Girish Kumar, Navneet Kaur Dhillon, Tisca Chopra and Kunal in main lead. She has played the Dadi of main female lead Pooja. Hope she will soon be seen in another Bollywood movies.
